The Spider-Man trailer that broke the internet (and what it says about your website)

If 1.1 billion people watch a trailer, it’s because someone made sure they did. The same should happen with your website.

Every morning, before I start working, I do something simple.

I check a few digital newspapers.
Read a bit of sports.
Some film.
A little politics.

Today I came across a story that was hard to ignore.

The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day passed 1 billion views.

To be exact: 1.1 billion.

Insane.

But beyond the number, there’s something more interesting behind it.

That figure makes it the most-watched trailer in history.

And it got me thinking.

About all the clients who ask us for a website.

We design it.
We deliver it.
And that’s where everything ends.

The website goes live.

And just sits there.

No movement.
No strategy.
No one looking at it.

Slowly dying.

Last week, I was talking to a client about this.

I told him something he didn’t like much.

But it’s true:

Launching a website isn’t the beginning.
More often than not, it’s the start of neglect.

Because without follow-up, without content, without intent…

No one shows up.

No one clicks.

No one sees anything.

It’s like producing an incredible movie…

And no one ever watches the trailer.

After all that effort,
your website exists.

But it doesn’t live.

And then the usual happens.

You wait for Google to do its magic.

A couple of prayers.
A few clicks.
And fingers crossed.

But no.

Google doesn’t perform miracles.

Here’s the real problem.

It’s not just that your website has no traffic.

It’s that many times, it’s not even built to get any.

A website isn’t decoration.

It’s not a digital business card.

It’s not “something you need to have.”

It’s a tool.

And if it’s not designed to attract, retain, and convert…

Then it’s not really a website.

It’s just a nice-looking file on the internet.

The Spider-Man trailer didn’t hit 1.1 billion views by accident.

There was strategy.
Distribution.
Anticipation.

Work.

Your website should work the same way.

You don’t need millions of visits.

But you do need the right people to show up… and take action.

If you feel like your website is just sitting there… doing nothing,

Because a website shouldn’t exist just to be there.

It should exist to perform.
