The 12-minute video that exposed the problem with your website

The design didn’t fail.
The person responsible for bringing it to life did.

I’m not going to sell you this story as if I’m your savior.

Although… maybe I could.

But that’s not the point.

The point is for you to understand something that happens more often than you think.

And if you’re not careful, it can happen to you.

This morning, my project manager asked me to review a video.

It was from an agency building my client’s website.

We had only done the design.

The video was 12 minutes long.

Twelve.

And in those 12 minutes, something interesting happened.

The person trying to implement the design was explaining how difficult it was for them.

They said the platform wouldn’t let them do this.
Or that.
Or anything else.

I had never even heard of that tool.

And honestly, I probably never will use it.

Let me tell you something.

It was an easy design to replicate.

Nothing unusual.
Nothing complex.
Nothing impossible.

But in the video…

They couldn’t export images without a background (even having the original files).
They couldn’t adjust the website width.
They couldn’t move forward.

They were stuck.

Over and over again.

I’m not going to speak badly about that person.

I don’t know them.
I don’t know who they are.

And it doesn’t matter.

What matters is this.

And here’s the part you should care about.

You need to know who you’re hiring.

My client doesn’t know about design.

Or web development.

And that’s normal.

They don’t have to.

But the person building their website…

Didn’t even have Photoshop installed.

The tool they were using was limited.

Outdated.

Restrictive.

My client was desperate.

They didn’t know what to do.

And this isn’t an exception.

It happens every day.

Agencies that don’t guide.
Professionals who aren’t.
Projects that stall.

My client said something that sums it all up.

The person in the video wasn’t a designer.

And probably not a developer either.

And this is where the risk comes in.

Because when you choose wrong…

Your project slows down.
Your money gets wasted.
And your brand pays the price.

You’re not hiring design.

You’re hiring judgment.

So here’s something simple.

But useful.

Don’t compromise your brand.
Interview whoever you hire.
Ask what tools they use.
Check if they’re actually professionals.
Don’t go with the first option.
Talk to at least three.

And if your budget is tight…

You don’t need a Ferrari.

But make sure the car at least starts.

I wasn’t going to sell you anything.

But I’m not going to ignore this either.
